This Privacy Policy explains how ToolTrusted (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit tooltrusted.com (the “Site”). We’ve written it to be readable. If something is unclear, ask: privacy@tooltrusted.com.
Who we are
ToolTrusted is an independent affiliate publication that reviews and compares email marketing tools. We are the “data controller” of personal data collected through the Site, in the meaning of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What we collect and why
- Information you give us: if you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us, or comment on a post, we collect the name, email address, and message contents you provide.
- Information collected automatically: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, referring URL, timestamp) retained for security and abuse-prevention purposes for 30 days.
- Analytics: we use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are read and which links are clicked. Where the analytics tool sets cookies, we obtain consent first.
- Affiliate tracking: when you click a link to a partner tool, that partner may set cookies on the destination site to attribute the click. We do not control those cookies — they are governed by the partner’s privacy policy.
Legal basis for processing (EU/UK readers)
- Newsletter and contact form: your consent, withdrawable at any time.
- Server logs and security: our legitimate interest in keeping the Site secure and abuse-free.
- Analytics cookies: your consent, granted through the cookie banner on first visit.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies. Strictly necessary cookies (session, security) are set without consent because the Site cannot function without them. Analytics cookies are only set after you consent through our banner. You can withdraw consent at any time through the banner or via your browser’s privacy settings.
Sharing your data
We share data only with service providers necessary to run the Site, under appropriate contractual safeguards: our hosting provider, our email marketing tool (for the newsletter), and our analytics tool. We do not sell personal data. We do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. When required by law, we may disclose information in response to a valid legal process.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to specific kinds of processing. EU/UK readers also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@tooltrusted.com from the address associated with the data. We’ll respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a sensitive request.
Retention
We retain personal data for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected. Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe (or for two years past your last engagement, whichever comes first). Contact-form messages are retained for three years for support history, then deleted. Server logs are kept for 30 days.
International transfers
Some of our service providers may be located outside the EU/UK. When data is transferred internationally, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards as set out in GDPR Articles 45–49.
Children
The Site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the homepage or by email where appropriate.
